MEET PASTOR STEVE MURRAY
Six weeks after being born in Billings, Montana, Steve and his parents moved to Southern California. They had had enough of farm life and the winters of Montana. After a couple years they settled in Azusa, about 25 miles east of L.A. A brother and two sisters were added to the family.
After graduating from high school, Steve was privileged to go to Stanford University on a football scholarship, and was blessed to be part of two Rose Bowl championships (1971 and 1972). He graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He met his wife Nancy, at Stanford, and they have been married for 44 years. They have four grown daughters, three of whom are married, and have 6 grand children and a dog.
Steve went to church from early on, but it wasn’t until college that he began to fully understand what it meant to be a Christian and to live as a Christian. A staff member of Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) began to discipline Steve and helped him to grow in his faith.
Upon graduating, instead of going into engineering, God directed Steve to join the staff of CCC. He spent 4 years at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, with the last 2 years as the staff director. Although Steve did not plan to stay in the ministry after CCC, God had other plans. God showed Steve that teaching the Bible and advocating for Christ was going to be a life long vocation.
Steve then went to Denver Seminary for three years and graduated with a Master of Divinity. Upon graduating he pastored a small church in Northern California for three years. followed by pastoring a church in San Jose for 12 years and then a church in Nashua, NH for 23 years. In 2019, Steve “semi-retired” and he and Nancy moved to Sun City West, AZ.
Steve wants to continue to serve God as a Pastor and coach/consultant. He enjoys cooking, reading, and would like to pick chess back up. He had been trying to learn Spanish for 10 years, so this opportunity at FBC is a wonderful “classroom” with many Maestros to learn from!
He prefers people call him Steve or Pastor Steve. He can be reached at steve@FBCnogales.org or 603-809-8712
